Why become an expat in Vietnam?

Hello, I am Mél! 🇻🇳

If you've been following me for a while, you know that I've dreamed of living in Asia for a long time.
Traveling with my parents since I was little has given me a taste for travel and opened my eyes to other ways of life. These are moments I don't want to forget and that I want to experience today with my own family. That's why we no longer want to doubt. It's happening: we are preparing our departure for Vietnam. 🧡

Why Vietnam?

Because it’s not just an exotic destination on a map. For me, it’s much deeper than that. I was born in Sri Lanka, adopted in France, and Asia has always been part of my story, my identity, my roots. Going back to live there is like closing a loop, or maybe opening a new one.

This project is both a personal adventure and a life choice. Leaving your comfort zone, relearning a language, immersing yourself in another culture, discovering daily life at a different pace… All of this has been calling me for years. Today, I choose to listen to that little voice.

Dare to change our habits

Only a few close friends know about this crazy project. And the first questions we receive concern our daily life in France.

➡ And what about school? And your friends? You will be far away from everything here, doesn't that scare you?

  • School is a non-issue: I took classes with my parents and was never behind compared to my classmates in France.
  • Our friends: the best will always remain the best. And new encounters will be made on site!
  • I would be lying if I said I wasn't scared. We are always a little scared; but doubts do not help us move forward, they paralyze us and prevent us from evolving.

Growing up in Asia has been an incredible opportunity and I dream of being able to experience these moments with Maxime and our daughter.

I can't wait to share this new chapter with you: the preparations, the discoveries, the joys, and surely also the struggles. Because such a journey is not a frozen postcard, but a living path, made of encounters, learning, and unexpected moments.

So, if you too dream of elsewhere, of travels or new beginnings, I hope this story can inspire you.
